I have been home for a couple of hours. I am confused and heavily medicated. I cannot stand on my own because of all the medication, which Mom says is to help me with the pain. She is able to get me outside, though, which I appreciate.

Surgery is Over…

October 6, 2015

My surgery was a success today. My right front leg was amputated. I am spending the night in the hospital, and Mom will pick me up tomorrow before noon. I know Mom and Dad are nervous about me adjusting to life on three legs…

My New Harness…

October 3, 2015

I tried on my RuffWear Web Master Harness in preparation for recovery from my surgery, which is taking place on Monday. I thought we were going to school or someplace because whenever I wear a vest, I am working. Mom thinks I will get used to the harness, which does feel a bit different from my Bright Spot Therapy Dog vest that I wear when I am working.

My amputation, which was supposed to take place yesterday, has been rescheduled for Monday. Some of my liver numbers were elevated so I had an ultrasound today. My liver looked fine so I will have my surgery Monday. I know Mom and Dad will be glad when we are on the other side of this, but I am fine with whatever happens:)

12033175_1708911346007315_5686945971881320269_nToday was my last day working at Mom’s school before my amputation, which is scheduled for this coming Thursday. I know Mom is nervous and wondering if I will come through the surgery OK. I have lived with Mom and Dad for almost three years now, and have been through several surgeries (to remove cancerous lumps and teats) so Mom knows how I am as a patient – she says I am great. Even so, I know the thought of me losing a leg is scary for Mom. I am somewhat clumsy as it is and I am sure Mom worries that I will struggle getting around. I am just happy that I will no longer have to deal with the pain cause by the tumor in my shoulder. Mom has told people at work, but she has chosen NOT to tell the students – she wants to make sure everything goes OK first, and then she will let them know what to expect when I return.
